HONK! A tuneful, witty retelling of Hans Christian Andersenís The Ugly Duckling, is an enchanting comic musical for the entire family. After he is lured away from his home by a wily Cat, an odd-looking baby duck named Ugly goes on a quest to find his mother. With the help of new friends that he meets along the way (including a comical troupe of geese and an ebullient bullfrog) his journey home becomes an adventure Ė and an exuberant celebration of being different.
The tradition of outdoor theater is alive and well at the Kitsap Forest Theater, and continues this spring with HONK!. Each weekend from Memorial Day through Fatherís Day, the Mountaineers Players will present this tuneful, witty retelling of Hans Christian Andersenís The Ugly Duckling at 2:00 pm. Both residents of the Kitsap Peninsula and visitors from Seattle and beyond will delight in this family-friendly production at the beautiful Kitsap Forest Theater, located just west of Bremerton.
A quarter-mile trail transports visitors to another time and place where stories for all ages have come to life since 1923. The presentation of our spring show coincides with the blooming of the wild rhododendrons that grow along the hillsides and down the trail to the theater. Generations of theatergoers have enjoyed the scenic drive or ferry ride to the theater, and often come early to picnic under the firs before the trail to the theater opens at 1:00 pm.
