Demise of the Trust Fund for Public Health
(2008-07-31)
(KUNR) - Friday morning at 9:00 on Nevada Newsline, we hear about the demise of Nevada's Trust Fund for Public Health. Since 2001, 72 projects have been funded exclusively on the interest earned from the fund, totaling 5.7 million dollars in public health programs, services and research. But in December when the governor ordered the first round of budget cuts, 9.5 million was taken from the fund. And during the recent special legislative session, the account was emptied of cash - 27.3 million dollars. I'll take your calls for a conversation with Dr. John Packham President of the Nevada Public Health Association. We also chat with Dr. Mary Anderson - Washoe County District Health Officer about what effect the loss means for some of the state's most vulnerable. Also this hour we chat with Amy Weiss, founder and executive director of The Widespread Wellness Project. Does your community offer opportunities for physical activities in the outdoors ? Host Brian Bahouth will take your calls enjoy the show © Copyright 2009, KUNR
