The National Hispanic Cultural Center is pleased to offer "Jugamos Juntos: A Summer of Free Family Fun." During June, July, and August, 2014, families can come to the Center for a variety of activities, including classes with local musicians on the third Saturday of each month.
The goal of "Cantando la Cultura," a sing-along for participants of all ages, is to engage children and adults in preserving culture through learning the history, lyrics, and music for traditional songs from New Mexico and Latin America.
Otilio Ruiz has been playing since the age of 13; he studied at the Music Conservatory in Xalapa in the Mexican state of Veracruz, and is a former member of the international companies Tlen-Huicani, at the University of Veracruz, and Achilzavata, based in Paris. He currently teaches music at Coronado Elementary School. The musical director of La Rondalla de Alburquerque, he is a virtuoso on the arpa jarocho, a wooden harp from Veracruz, and has performed at many NHCC events.
