Cuban born saxophonist-percussionist-composer-educator, Yosvany Terry incorporates American jazz traditions with his own Afro-Cuban roots to produce music that flows from the rhythmic and hard-driving avant-garde to sweet-sounding lyricism. Terry burst onto the jazz and contemporary music scene in New York in 1999, where he, as the New York Times put it "helped to redefine Latin jazz as a complex new idiom." He brings his inimitable style to stages all over the world, performing regularly with his own Quartet his Afro-Caribbean Quintet, as well as with the Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Eddie Palmieri. Terry's quintet blends a dense mix of influences from West Africa, Cuba, and American jazz, creating a unique vision which is now recognized as one of the most important cross-cultural integrations in modern jazz. Performing music from their acclaimed release, Today’s Opinion (New York Times top 10 albums of 2012), the all star quintet features Yosvany Terry, alto & soprano saxophones & chekeré; Michael Rodriguez, trumpet; Osmany Paredes, piano; Clarence Penn, drums; and former Albuquerquean, the renowned bassist, Matt Brewer.
