Colorado Congressman Jared Polis officially kicked off September's Solar and Green Homes tour Tuesday morning with a look around a carbon-neutral home in Boulder. He then joined Boulder County officials to discuss the next phase of a $25 million Better Buildings' grant that helps homeowners and businesses retrofit their homes to be more energy efficient. "A lot of this ties in nationally to what is one of the most important challenges our nation needs to face," Polis says, "and that's creating a renewable energy future. A future that doesn't rely on fossil fuels, doesn't make us beholden to foreign powers, and is cleaner for the environment."
Colorado is seen as a leader in the renewable energy economy, which Polis points out is one of a handful of sectors that has added jobs during the recession. Tuesday evening Polis will be on hand to formally announce a new partnership among solar businesses, the Colorado Solar Energy Industries Association and CU Boulder's Leeds School of Business.
