OSHA Proposes Fines For Postal Facility in Denver
(2010-05-11)
(KUNC) - The U.S. Postal Service could be fined for workplace violations against its employees at the Denver Network Distribution Center.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has issued three willful citations after it found workers tested live electrical equipment without adequate safety training or protective equipment. Herb Gibson is the area director for OSHA in Denver. He says the Postal service was aware of the problems.

"This is a large mail processing facility so OSHA has done numerous inspections at this facility and through the years we have certainly issued citations but nothing at this level"

The citations carry a possible fine of 217-thousand dollars. Gibson says penalties can be negotiated through the process of correcting and resolving the issues. The Postal Service responded to the allegations saying the safety of its employees is a priority and that it will work with OSHA on any necessary adjustments.
