Vice President Touts Stimulus Success in Longmont
(2010-04-30)
(KUNC) - Vice President Joe Biden visited Colorado today in an effort to tout renewable energy technology developed thanks to stimulus grants.

He visited a new factory built by UQM Technologies in Longmont. The business makes electric propulsion systems for hybrid and electronic cars, trucks and buses. And thanks to stimulus money, it's poised to become the first company in the U.S. to produce high-volume electronic prolusion systems. The vice president addressed a crowd of about 800 people.

"The $45 million received in the Recovery Act funding has helped pay for this facility and the equipment. But it goes beyond that. UQM is matching us every dollar for dollar," he says.

And Biden adds that the money is funding part of the expansion. The grant is part of an estimated $2 billion in stimulus funds that the federal government is spending on the development and production of alternative technologies. Governor Bill Ritter, Senator Mark Udall and 4th Congressional Representative Betsy Markey were also speakers at the event.
