Tea Party Could Influence Precinct Caucus Meetings for Republicans
Precinct caucus meetings will be held around the state tonight to begin the process of selecting candidates for the fall election. But the emergence of the Tea Party could make things interesting for Republicans.
Despite having two presumed front-runners for Senate and Governor - Jane Norton and Scott McInnis respectively - the GOP still has a crowded field in both races. And many Republicans who share the anti-establishment views of the Tea Party - have not been supportive of either campaign. "Colorado Statesman" publisher Jody Hope Strogoff says that could bode well for the secondary candidates.
"Dan Maes is likely to do very well tonight. He's got a lot of the support of the real conservatives. Likewise with Ken Buck over Jane Norton. She has some problems with conservatives too - and likely Ken Buck is going to do very well"
Ken Buck is Weld County's District Attorney and Dan Maes, who is running for Governor, is a businessman from Evergreen. While Democrats don't have a conservative movement to contend with - they too will have to choose between two senate candidates incumbent Michael Bennet and former speaker of the House Andrew Romanoff.
