Labor Day Travel Increases this Labor Day Weekend
(2010-09-03)
(KUNC) - The number of travelers in the mountain west region, including Colorado, is expected to increase 10.7% over the same time period a year ago. That's according to AAA Colorado. That means about 2.68 million people will be traveling this weekend. While that may seem like a lot, the travel industry is still playing catch up thanks to the recession.

"In 2008 we had close to 3.5 million travelers over labor day weekend. In 2009 that fell all the way down to 2.4 million travelers. So we saw a huge decline for 2009, now we're starting to see a huge bounce back up with 2010 levels," says AAA Colorado Spokeswoman Wave Dreher.

Numbers of travelers for all major travel periods this year have been up, and Dreher says that trend is expected to continue through the holiday season this year.
