State Parks Offer Free Admission on Monday
(2010-07-30)
(KUNC) - Colorado State Parks encompass more than 225,000 acres of land and water, and attract some 12 million people each year. On Monday, the admission fee to all 42 state parks will be waived.

"Colorado Day was created by the state legislature to mark the anniversary of statehood, which occurred in 1876 under President Ulysses S. Grant. The annual free day at state parks is a long-standing tradition," says Deb Frazier, spokeswoman for Colorado State Parks.

While admission is free on Monday, all other fees, including camping fees will remain in effect. On Saturday thousands of Coloradans are expected to volunteer across the state - for Colorado cares day - a volunteer day also honoring statehood. Colorado's official statehood anniversary is August 1st.
