Palin Endorses McConnell in 3rd CD Race

(KUNC) -
A Steamboat Springs Republican candidate for the US House is the recipient of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin's first Colorado endorsement. Palin made the endorsement on her Facebook page this week. She hailed Bob McConnell of Steamboat Springs as a constitutional conservative who "wants to limit government." McConnell is trying to win his party's nomination next month for the state's third congressional district. He's in what's seen as an increasingly tight primary battle between Scott Tipton, a state Republican legislator from Cortez. Palin's endorsement of McConnell is not necessarily a surprise. Among other things, McConnell has called for the elimination of the income tax, in favor of a so-called fair tax. And he's won support from local Tea Party activists, who Palin is aligned with. The state's third congressional district is huge, and it encompasses much of northwest and southwest Colorado. The seat is currently held by Democrat John Salazar, who's seeking a fourth term this fall.
