FLEX bus route comes to Northern Colorado
(2010-06-07)
(KUNC) - Today Northern Colorado commuters have one more regional public transportation option at their disposal.

The so-called FLEX bus service is a partnership between the cities of Longmont, Berthoud, Loveland and Fort Collins. Routes connect the region with Longmont's transit center six days a week, which has RTD busses departing for Boulder and ultimately Denver. Keith Reester is director of public works for the city of Loveland, which secured $1.2 million dollars in federal money for the effort.

"It's an express bus. It's not a local service bus," he says. "So there are not a lot of stops. Realistically the time to get from Fort Collins to Boulder is only a little over an hour."

The move comes as the 34-Xpress, a route between Loveland and Greeley is being terminated. Reester says plenty of market research and complete community wide buy-in make the FLEX route poised for success. More than 20 passengers per hour are expected to ride the route in its first year. A ticket costs $1.25.
