Colorado Bird Series: the Sandhill Crane
General Event Information
Dates and Times:
October 10, 12:00PM-1:00PM
Join us for a natural history series featuring local naturalist, Kevin Cook. This series focuses on a different bird each month. Some are familiar from routine but casual encounters; some are mysterious for their seldom-seen ways; some are scarcely known at all. Each bird, chosen for its connectedness to landscape and lifescape, is a story about life, about living, and about Colorado. This month Kevin features the Master of Longevity: Sandhill Crane. Nature presents longevity in two regards: the life duration of an individual and the life duration for its species. If we interpret the fossil record correctly, most species endure for about 2 million years; but Sandhill Cranes, one of Colorado’s great wildlife spectacles, have seen the passing of ages well beyond the average. They are truly among the elite of our wildlife elders.
