KUMD Album Reviews: Young Magic
Young Magic’s debut LP Melt is a cultural pastiche probably best classified as psychedelic world music. Throughout the album you’ll encounter traces of chillwave, tribal percussion, and just a dash of dubstep in the rhythm department. by Basement DJ: The Doctor Vocalists Melati Malay and Isaac Emmanuel's (the primary musician behind the project) vocal interplay is often drenched in reverb, which compliments the textural synths and limited use of guitars. Highlights of the album include the ethereal backdrop of "Jam Karet", the woozy synth hook of "Slip Time", and the vocal harmonies halfway through "Night in the Ocean". Melt is dreamy, danceable, and wholly adventurous debut.
