The six honored Minnesota Freedom Riders were non-violent activists who joined the effort of CORE, SNCC and others to desegregate inter-state bus travel. They arrived on June 11, 196, at the Jackson, Mississippi bus terminal from Nashville Tennessee & spent half the summer in Mississippi state prison. David Morton and Bob Baum continued on to North Carolina after regaining their freedom in Mississippi.
Chief Judge Michael J. Davis hosts the opening reception on Friday with Josie Johnson, and Keynote Speaker, Congressman Keith Ellison. The four surviving Minnesota Freedom Riders will also speak. The traveling exhibit, "Freedom Riders" in The Federal Courthouse atrium in Minneapolis through June 20.
