Alberton, Montana to Host 28th Railroad Day Celebration
In honor of its storied railroad past, Alberton, Montana will celebrate its 28th Railroad Day Celebration on July 19, 2013; the all-town celebration is open to the public with activities and performances geared to all ages.
The celebration is scheduled to begin at 8:00 am with a pancake breakfast in the Alberton Community Center. The breakfast is hosted by and will benefit the Alberton Senior Citizens. A parade kicks off the main festivities at 11:00 am, followed up by a High Noon Shoot-Out. A second shoot-out will take place at 4:00 pm.
The University of Montana’s G. Wiz will perform a show at 12:20 pm complete with chemistry experiments and liquid nitrogen ice cream. Missoula’s own Evan Disney the Magician will perform two shows at 2:00 pm and 4:15 pm, and face art by the talented Parris Ja Young will be available for folks both young and old. Musical performances include The Old Time Fiddlers and The Black Mountain Boys.
“Railroad Day is a way to celebrate and preserve our Railroad Heritage,” says Richard Werst, the Alberton Community Foundation’s Chief Information Officer. “Something for everyone, with a parade so nice you get to see it twice.”
Other activities throughout the day include (but are not limited to) a Spike Driving Contest with a $50 prize, a Golden Spike Hunt with a $100 prize, a watermelon eating contest, a kid’s jump house, a petting zoo, wagon rides, graffiti art train, and a coloring booth. Various food and drink vendors will be available as well as art, craft, and other vendors for your buying and viewing pleasure.
Alberton Railroad Day memorabilia buttons will be available for sale for $1 as well as raffle tickets for the Clark Fork River Getaway- a basket of over $700 worth of Mineral-county inspired prizes. Raffle tickets are available for $1 a piece or 6 for $5 and are for sale at various Alberton businesses. Drawing for the raffle will be held at 4:00 pm at the River Edge Resort.

Alberton is located 30 miles west of Missoula off I-90 on exits 77 and 75.
