Coal companies are planning to ship millions of tons of Montana and Wyoming coal to Asia. The impacts from mining, transporting, and burning coal affect all of us – not only Montanans, but also citizens from around the globe. We need to be INFORMED and ENGAGED in order to protect our communities.
THINK GLOBALLY: Lifeng Fang is from Zhejiang Province in southeast China and currently resides in Beijing. Lifeng is an experienced organizer who has worked for years to reduce the impacts from coal mining in the water-scarce regions of China. He is now fighting to reduce dangerous air pollution from the burning of coal, which is causing serious health problems throughout his country.
ACT LOCALLY: Coal export proposals would result in a substantial increase in coal train traffic through Montana. These proposals would result in traffic delays, negative health effects, more noise, expensive infrastructure projects, and safety risks to Montanans. We deserve to be included in the decision-making process about coal export!
The public comment period on one of the largest proposed West Coast ports in Longview, Washington, is now open, and we need to be heard. Come together with your neighbors to learn about this important issue, testify, and write comments to let decision makers know that the impacts of coal export to Montana – and the world -- must be considered.
