The leader of a polygamist Mormon sect, who's been one of the country's most sought after fugitives, is now behind bars.A Nevada Highway Patrol trooper arrested Warren Jeffs late yesterday on a highway just outside Las Vegas.
Jeffs has been on the F-B-I's Ten Most Wanted list since May, with a 100-thousand-dollar reward being offered. He's wanted in Utah and Arizona on suspicion of sexual misconduct. Authorities believe he arranged for older men to marry underage girls.
Jeffs leads the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After the mainstream Mormon church renounced polygamy in 1890, that sect split off. © Copyright 2012, Associated Press
