Brown, Higgins Look to Push Urban Agendas at DNC
(2008-08-25)
(wned) - Democrats start the big event today, as they assemble in Denver for the Democratic National Committee.

The party is expecting 50,000 people connected with the convention and another 15,000 reporters.

The ranks of the visitors include a Western New York delegation looking ahead to the November election and the hope of taking back the White House.

Mayor Brown leaves for Denver today as a pledged delegate for Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton now actively working for Democratic Candidate Barack Obama.

The mayor says he hopes to push his city's needs.

"I've had the opportunity to meet the democratic nominee, Senator Obama, on several occasions. I hope to have an opportunity to again meet briefly with Senator Obama and talk to him about Buffalo," Brown said.

Congressman Brian Higgins will be on the November ballot with Illinois Senator Obama and says Democrats will do well.

Higgins has an urban agenda he wants to pitch.

"Buffalo needs a different kind of help from Washington...a way to help cities become economically independent [and] self-sufficient. I think that's a very important message to be sending to the new leadership in Washington," Higgins said.

Higgins says Buffalo doesn't need the traditional help, instead seeking infrastructure help for economic development.
