Police departments look at alternatives to save gas
(2008-04-29)
(wnmu) - High gas prices are affecting everyone--including law enforcement. Detective Captain Mike Angeli is with the Marquette Police Department. He says each patrol car in the fleet can cost about $50 dollars a day in fuel. He says that's forced some shifts into what amounts to carpooling. Some officers on various shifts double-up in patrol cars to save as much fuel as possible.

Angeli says putting officers on foot patrols could become a money-saving option in the future.
