Everest Claims Two Climbers
A Nepalese mountaineering official says they fell after reaching the altitude of 27-thousand-200 feet on their way to the summit of the world's highest mountain yesterday.
Some 23 climbing parties are attempting to scale the peak from the Nepalese side this season, which began in March and ends later this month. But strong winds and heavy snow have hampered many of the parties.
The first teams reached the 29-thousand-35-foot summit yesterday, and at least 31 climbers made it today. Six Americans are among those who reached the peak.
Also reaching the peak was a veteran Sherpa guide who has scaled Mount Everest for a record 17th time.
