Huckabee supports flat tax
(2006-09-06)
(UALR Public Radio) - Arkansas Governor and potential presidential candidate Mike Huckabee says he supports a flat tax instead of a progressive income tax. The Republican preacher-turned politician compares the idea to the biblical concept of tithing, or giving 10% of one's income to the church. Huckabee says a flat income tax, like a tithe, would be proportionate to each person's income, and therefore more equitable. Republican Steve Forbes made a flat tax a central part of his presidential campaigns in 1996 and 2000. On Wednesday morning, Huckabee told listeners to his monthly call-in show on the Arkansas Radio Network that the flat tax is an idea whose time has now come. © Copyright 2009, UALR Public Radio
