Ark. farm bureau opposes lottery, backs foster ban
(2008-09-19)
(UALR Public Radio) - The Arkansas Farm Bureau says it opposes a proposal for a state-run lottery and supports banning unmarried couples living together from fostering or adopting children.

The group, which represents about 227,000 families around the state, released its positions on the ballot measures Wednesday. The bureau said it was opposed to the proposed constitutional amendment authorizing a state lottery to fund college scholarships and to an amendment that would allow the state Legislature to meet annually.

The group said it supports an initiated act barring unmarried couples who live together from becoming foster or adoptive parents. It also backs giving the state authority to issue $300 million in bonds for water projects.
