The Arkansas Travelers have won their first Texas League championship since 2001, which was awarded to them after being 2-0 in a best of 7 game series cut short by the 9-11 terrorist attacks. The Travelers beat the Frisco Rough Riders in Dr.Pepper Ballpark 11-3 in the fifth game of the 2007 series last night. However, the Travs were lucky just to get into the playoffs, having barely beat the Springfield Cardinals for the first half championship earlier this season. The Travs finished the second half of the season in last place in the Texas League, but swept the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, the newest team in the league. The Travelers went 1-1 in North Little Rock against the Riders, and 1-1 before winning outright their first championship in 19 years. © Copyright 2009, UALR Public Radio
