UALR raises nearly $51 million
(2008-09-12)

(UALR Public Radio) - In its first large-scale fundraiser, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock has raised nearly $51 million toward a goal of $75 million.

Los Angeles Lakers player and former UALR Trojan Derek Fisher, along with Warren Stephens of Stephens Inc., are urging support for the university. Fisher has made a $700,000 donation and pledge. Stephens' father, the late Jack Stephens, contributed roughly $22 million for the new Jack Stephens Center on campus.

Warren Stephens says the university plays an important role in central Arkansas and says 20 percent of his investment company employees are UALR graduates. The university hopes to reach its goal in 2011. The campaign began three years ago.
