Mosaic Templars Series Part One
(UALR Public Radio) -
On September 20th, the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center opens in downtown Little Rock. It will be the first state museum dedicated to Arkansas's African-American heritage.
It's been 125 years since the founding of the Mosaic Templars organization by two former slaves, and seventy-five years since the international group's demise. There have been twists and turns in the story of the headquarters building since then, as well as the neighborhood where it stands.
This three-part series examines that history, as well as the story of West Ninth Street, and the discovery of an extant chapter of the Mosaic Templars.
