Little Rock's MacArthur Park may get makeover
Little Rock officials and residents are discussing ways to improve MacArthur Park. The park includes the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History in the old military barracks where the famous World War II general was born in 1880.
The 36-acre park also includes the Arkansas Arts Center and the Arkansas Korean War Memorial.
Residents known as the MacArthur Park Group have raised 100,000 dollars to hire consultants to help develop improvements for the park and a master plan is to be unveiled in November. Also, Mayor Mark Stodola is considering spending 150,000 dollars on park projects if a proposed bond refinancing goes through.
Proposals include doubling the size of the park's man-made lake, and adding an amphitheater and a fishing pier, as well as a trail through the park, sidewalks, lighting, trees and other landscaping.
