U.S. Attorney admits job is political, but maintains he's qualified
(UALR Public Radio) -
Tim Griffin, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas, admits his appointment in December was political, but maintains he's qualified to hold the post.
Griffin is a former political operative in the Bush White House, and it's that background - and the way he got the job - that has some members of congress questioning the appointment. Griffin was named interim U.S. Attorney in December after Bud Cummins was forced out of the job. Griffin will remain in the job without Senate confirmation under provisions of the USA Patriot Act.
On Thursday the House Judiciary Committee subpoenaed Cummins and three other former U.S. Attorneys to testify before the panel in Washington next week.
