(UALR Public Radio) - Fire officials are digging through debris at the University Park Adult Leisure Center in Little Rock to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed the building.

A passerby saw black smoke billowing from the top of the center around 1:30 a.m. Sunday and called police. Fire officials say when they first arrived on scene flames were over 30 feet in the air. Truman Tolefree the City's Parks and recreation director says the center can't be salvaged.

City Manager Bruce Moore says the city is fully insured -- $2.8 million in coverage -- for the fire damage. The building was one of five community centers operated by the city's parks and recreation department and the only one dedicated to programs for senior citizens.
