Lincoln to meet with Obama on health overhaul
(2009-11-03)
(UALR Public Radio) - U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln is meeting with President Barack Obama to discuss proposals to overhaul the nation's health care system.

A spokeswoman for Lincoln said the Democratic senator from Arkansas planned to meet with the president at the White House Tuesday afternoon. Lincoln's office said she requested the meeting with the president to discuss ways to move forward on health care.

Lincoln is viewed as one of several moderate Democrats whose support is crucial for passing health care reform. Lincoln has said she is opposed to offering a government-run insurance option, but has not said whether she'll vote for a proposal that would allow states to choose whether to participate in such a program.

Lincoln is running for re-election next year, and seven candidates have said they're seeking the Republican nomination to challenge her.
