Alltel Arena officially becomes Verizon Arena (UALR Public Radio) - Alltel Arena is no more.

The events facility in North Little Rock has been officially renamed Verizon Arena, following Verizon's buyout of Little Rock-based Alltel.

Arena general manager Michael Marion says workers are changing over the blue-and-white color scheme to match Verizon's palette of red, black and gray. The arena's outdoor sign has also been replaced.

The arena, in downtown North Little Rock, hosts the Arkansas Twisters arena football team and is also the venue for major concerts and sporting events in central Arkansas.

Upcoming events include a concert by American Idol finalists and a performance by tween star Miley Cyrus.
