'Fair Game': Devra Davis
Think the Iraq war is dragging out? The war on cancer was declared 36 years ago. Devra Davis says we're not winning that one either, and warns that we're fighting the wrong enemy.

The Secret History of the War on Cancer (Basic Books)

For nearly 40 years our country has been fighting a long and vexing war on cancer. Overall cancer deaths are down - mostly due to a decrease in smoking - but many forms of cancer are on the rise, particularly among children. University of Pittsburgh epidemiologist Devra Davis says we could be doing a lot better in this war; she says as many as 10 million cancer deaths could have been avoided over the last decade if we'd paid more attention to a mountain of evidence that suggests most cancer is caused by pollution and contaminants. She's laid out her thoughts in a new book called The Secret History of the War on Cancer.
