2013 World Championships Banned Substances Disagreement In June, the North Pole Economic Development Corporation announced that the International Federation of Sleddog Sports had accepted a bid to host the 2013 World Championships. Disagreement over a list of banned substances for sled dogs has put the long distance race in jeopardy. The Two Rivers Dog Mushers Association meets tonight (Monday) for their monthly meeting. Members will make a final decision about whether to include a well-known local distance race among the World Championship events.

Remembering Athabascan Elder Richard Frank Athabascan Elder Richard Frank passed away last week. He was born and raised in Old Minto, roughly 60 miles northwest of Fairbanks. Frank was outspoken about native land claims issues and culture heritage preservation. After serving in the Army Air Corp during World War Two, he went on to found the Alaska Native Veteran's Association. KUAC's Emily Schwing sat down with his daughter, Roxanne, and his granddaughter, Amanda, to talk about who he was.

Kids Research Impacts of Construction on Piledriver Slough Students from Salcha School are getting out of the classroom and into the field, for a 10-year science project that calls for the kids to research the impact that construction of the Alaska Railroad bridge over the Tanana River will have on the Piledriver Slough. KUAC's Tim Ellis recently caught up with a group of Salcha fourth-graders on the banks of the slough.

Alaska Division of Forestry Looking for Feedback on Trees for Fort Greely Biomass System The Division of Forestry will be taking feedback on a proposal to cut a large number of trees from state forest land in the Delta Junction area. The trees will be used to fuel a biomass heat and power system for Fort Greely. KUAC's Tim Ellis reports from Delta.
