(KUAC) - It could be said that human culture is what it is today because of our long history with other animals. First as hunters, then as domesticators we have been profoundly shaped by the many species we've learned to depend on.

This series on reindeer draws on work by the University of Alaska Fairbanks' Institute of Arctic Biology and a program in the School of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences. Staff at the University's Oral History Department gathered the interviews.

Today we look at the history and heritage of herding reindeer in Alaska.

Producer and writer Kathy Turco worked with the Seward Peninsula reindeer herders to bring us this program.
