(KUAC) -
Fannie Quigley has become a mythological character of the gold rush in the Kantishna area. The wilderness woman, known for her hunting, gardening and cooking skills, lived until her death in 1944, in the remote backcountry of Denali National Park. As Fairbanks writer and historian Jane Haig found in researching a new book, few people know much beyond the myth and legend of this pioneer woman. As she tells KUAC's Dan Bross, there was more to Fannie Quigley, then the often recounted stories about her wilderness life.
