Early College Initiative encourages Fairbanks students FAIRBANKS, AK (KUAC) - The Effie Kokrine Charter School offers students in Fairbanks a curriculum based on hands-on learning and Alaska Native culture. It's also giving students a unique opportunity: to work towards a college degree while still in high school. They're doing it through the Early College High School Initiative, which focuses on Native students and is funded through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. As KUAC's Libby Casey reports, Effie Kokrine is the first Alaskan school to participate.
