Accion Texas Inc., a nonprofit small business and microfinance organization, in partnership with Project VIDA and the Contract Opportunities Center, will host a free seminar and networking opportunity for small business owners.
The event will teach business owners how to seek out and win contracts with government entities.
Project VIDA is located in the center of El Paso and has served more than 1,500 families. The organization provides health, education, economic development and housing services for the El Paso area. The Contract Opportunities Center (COC), a Procurement Technical Assistance Center, is funded in part through the Department of Defense through a grant administered by the Defense Logistics Agency. The COD provides specialized and professional assistance to individuals and businesses seeking to learn about contracting and subcontracting opportunities with the DOD and other federal agencies.
Mike Avila, procurement specialist for Contract Opportunities Center (COC), assists vendors in El Paso and surrounding communities on how to secure government. His background includes work as a senior financial analyst, loan officer and business specialist for various organizations within the community.

• Identifying marketing, contracting and subcontracting opportunities
• Military specifications, solicitation notices and Federal Acquisition clauses
• Completing applications, certifications and registrations
• Preparing and submitting bids request and proposals
• Federal, state and local procurement laws, rules, policies, regulations and procedures
• Utilizing e-commerce and electronic data interchange systems
