The monthly jazz concert series presented by the Mesilla Valley Jazz & Blues Society will feature the ALVIL QUARTET, led by pianist Allan Rodriguez and featuring Tony Castro, bass; Yulier Bonet Perez, drums; and Art Avila on congas. The monthly jazz series happens every third Sunday of the month at the First Christian Church, 1809 El Paseo (across from L.C.H.S.) and the ALVIL QUARTET will appear at 7pm following a brief meeting of the society. Allan Rodriguez was born in Mexico City in 1981 and with musical influences from their father, Allan and his brother Lem-Kar Rodriguez started playing instruments and being exposed to music at an early age. At the age of 15, Allan enrolled at the Conservatorio de Musica in Ciudad Chihuahua, Mexico with his first piano teacher Anoush Varnarian from Armenia. After three years of serious study, Allan received a full scholarship from the University of Colorado at Boulder where he received a Bachelor of Music in piano performance. After being influenced by jazz music from John "Chip" Stevens, Allan obtained a second Bachelor of Music in Jazz Piano where he studied with the famous Pat Bianchi as well as Jeff Jenkins. Allan has performed with several jazz and world music groups in Denver and El Paso including Alfredito Rivera y su Orquestra, La Candela, Jimmy Trujillo's Salsa con Jazz, "Case Closed", the Tito Malaga Band, Sobredocis del Saboras well as his own groups. Allan is also one of the directors for the Santana Tribute Band, "Persuasion" and is currently teaching music at the public schools in El Paso as well as exploring the healing aspects of music and provides music therapy for patients in El Paso and elsewhere.
