This fun and exciting 2-hour workshop uses a selection of educational prints/posters from the El Paso Museum of Art’s collection and local art from the Hal Marcus Gallery to inspire creative writing. “Write Off the Walls” sparks a sharp and inquisitive interest in visual art, while encouraging writers of all skill levels to formulate personal opinions and express them with confidence. Explore the lives and work of famous artists from around the world, including Edgar Degas, Jacob Lawrence, Mary Aiken, Gaspar Enriquez, Salvador Dali, Gaugin and van Gogh. Learn about interesting connections among these artists and their work, and compare the nature of the times in which they lived with current circumstances. Presenter, Mónica Gómez is an award-winning writer, teaching artist, and on-air talent. For five years, she has hosted State of the Arts on KTEP 88.5 FM, El Paso’s NPR station. Her recently released creative writing workbook, "EXPRESSERCIZE: Write Answers," is finding its way into corporate trainings, programs for soldiers with PTSD, and juvenile correction facilities, as well as mainstream education and writers’ groups. |
