Purg Gets Growth Green Light, Mostly!
(2008-09-10)
(ksut) - HOST LEAD: The Forest Service has issued a final decision for most of Durango Mountain Resorts Mountain Master Plan.
A local environmental group is giving the decision a thumbs up.
KSUT's Victor Locke reports.

VICTOR: The forest service approval of an Environmental Impact Statement for the Mountain Masterplan clears the way for several improvements at Purgatory.
Among them:
A new high speed quad replacing chair 8.
A fixed triple upgrade to Chair 4.
Expansion of the Gelande parking lot and installation of the Gelande lift and ticket office.
New gladed trails in the legends area, new trails on the backside, and expanded snowmaking on the frontside and new snowmaking on the backside.
The improvements will take several years to install.
The forest service however, deferred approval of new trails and a lift in the Ice Creek area.
DMR and Colorado Wild, which raised questions about the impact Ice Creek developments would have on Lynx habitat are working with the forest service to address those concerns.
The public has until October 27th to appeal the decision.
The changes would increase DMR's daily capacity from just under 7-thousand to almost 9-thousand skiers and boarders.
From KSUT, I'm Victor Locke.
