Library Reaches Landmark
(2008-09-02)
(ksut) - HOST LEAD: Durango's new library is on target to open in just under 90-days.
Meanwhile, a major milestone in the 18-million dollar project has been reached.
KSUT's Victor Locke reports.

VICTOR: A 100-thousand dollar donation from a Dallas Foundation has put friends of the library over the top in their bid to raise 750-thousand dollars for the library.
That money will be used to purchase necessary furnishings and other items.
Library Director Sherry Taber also told city councilors last night, work on the new library is on schedule.
TABER: OKLAND CONSTRUCTION, OUR CONTRACTOR, IS PLANNING TO TURN THE BUILDING OVER TO US AT SOME POINT LATE THIS MONTH. AND THEN WE GET TO TURN IT INTO A LIBRARY. THERE'S QUITE A BIT INVOLVED IN TAKNIG THE COLLECTION AT THE CURRENT LIBRARY, AND PUTTING RFID TAGS IN EVERY SINGLE PIECE SO IT CAN WORK WITH OUR NEW SYSTEM, IN THE NEW LIBRARY, AND THEN BOXING ALL THOSE ITEMS, AND GETTING THEM OVER TO THE NEW LIBRARY AND GETTING THEM ONTO THE SHELVES, IN ORDER, SO YOU CAN FIND THEM ON OPENING DAY. SO WE HOPE THAT YOU WILL BEAR WITH US WHEN WE HAVE TO CLOSE THE CURRENT LIBRARY AFTER ONE HUNDRED ONE AND A HALF YEARS OF SERVICE, ON OCTOBER 25TH AT 5:30.
A formal ribbon cutting for the new library will be held December 1st at 4pm.
From KSUT, I'm Victor Locke.
