Florida Road Project Pricetag Increases
(2008-06-10)
(ksut) - HOST LEAD: The size of a proposed bond issue to rebuild Durango's Florida Road has grown.
And the fate and form of the project could depend on results of a scientific survey.
KSUT's Victor Locke explains.

VICTOR: Requests from the public have pushed the estimated price for rebuilding Florida from 3rd Avenue to Animas Valley Drive to 15-point-5 million dollars, an increase of about one million.
City manager Ron LeBlanc told councilors last night input at a public meeting on Florida prompted the additions such as one to three additional traffic signals, pedestrian and bike crossings and more.
LEBLANC: THEY'RE IMPORTANT TO THE NEIGHBORS THAT ABUT FLORIDA ROAD. THEY'RE SAFETY RELATED AND ESTHETIC RELATED.
Councilors also backed a proposal to conduct a scientific survey to measure public opinion on the Florida Road project as well as on a possible recreation bond sometime in the distant future.
Survey results should be back before July 25th, the date the city must notify the county of intent to put the Florida Road bond on the November ballot, which would be funded from existing revenue's and not require a tax increase of any kind.
From KSUT, I'm Victor Locke.
