Cancer Symposium in Durango
(2008-05-16)
(ksut) - HOST LEAD: The first ever women's cancer symposium will be held Durango on Saturday.

KSUT's Sarah Baumgartner has more.

SARAH: Close to 300,000 women in the United states died of cancer in 2007 alone according to cancer.org.
This Saturday at Fort Lewis College, the Women's Wellness Connection along with Mercy Regional Medical Center and University of Colorado Cancer Center is hosting the first ever Women's Cancer Symposium in Durango.

The event is free to the public and will have several guest speakers to discuss cancers of all kinds that effect women.

Survivors, family members and those whose lives have been touched by cancer are encouraged to attend.

Bj Boucher, Community Coordinator for the women wellness connection, says that because of cancer awareness, detection is being caught in the earlier stages.

BJ BOUCHER: DIAGNOSIS ARE HAPPENING EARLIER WHICH IS GOOD. I THINK PEOPLE BEING CONSCIENCE OF CANCER, HOPEFULLY THEY'RE DOING THEIR SCREENING AND THEIR FINDING OUT AND THEN THEY'RE GETTING IN FOR THEIR TREATMENT.

For further information contact the Women's Wellness Center at 259-3527.

From, KSUT, I'm Sarah Baumgartner.
