Hermosa Land Swap to get a Closer Look
(ksut) - HOST LEAD: A controversial land swap between the Forest Service and Glacier Club is getting a closer look.
What's known as the Hermosa Land Exchange will now be the subject of a formal Environmental Impact Statement.
KSUT's Victor Locke reports.

VICTOR: Glacier Club wants to swap 330 acres in two inholdings at Mitchell Lakes and Hermosa Creek, in return for 265 acres of Forest Service land adjacent to Highway 550, between Haviland Lake and Glacier Club's present properties.
Glacier club wants the extra acreage to add 9 new golf holes and other development.
Glacier club has added a third, ten acre private inholding in the Weminuche Wilderness it will give the Forest Service for the land.
The EIS will address in detail issues raised during a public input period last year, inclouding impacts on wildlife, wetlands, recreation, and a historic wagon road in the area the Forest Service would surrender.
A Draft EIS on the land swap with five alternatives is expected to be issued this fall and will then be subjected to 45 days of public input, and further deliberation
From KSUT, I'm Victor Locke.
