(2008-04-07)
(ksut) - HOST LEAD: Durango School District 9-R's second attempt to select a Superintendent went public this weekend.

KSUT's Sarah Baumgartner reports.

HOST LEAD: This past Saturday afternoon the public had a chance to meet the three finalists for Durango School District 9-R Superintendent search.
The three finalists are Dr. Kenneth Ladouceur who's currently the Superintendent of Gilpin County School District in Black Hawk, Colorado.

The second candidate is Dr. Charles (Chuck) Stockton. Who is presently the assistant to the superintendent of Springfield R-XII Public Schools in Springfield, Missouri.

And the third finalist is Dr. Keith Owen. Dr. Owen is currently the chief academic officer of Pueblo School District No. 60 in Pueblo, Colorado.

In an unusual move the forum was publicized in advance of the candidates being named. Candidate names were released to area media Friday night.
School board member Jeff Schell explains.
JEFF SCHELL: I WE'RE ON A TIGHT SCHEDULE AND SO WE HAD PUBLICIZED THAT WERE GOING TO HAVE THE FORUMS A WEEK A HEAD SO THAT PEOPLE KNEW THEY WERE THERE WE JUST DIDN'T HAVE THE CANDIDATES THAT WOULD BE THERE.

The second interview is this Wednesday afternoon and evening in a closed-door session with the full school board and three members of the search committee.

From KSUT, I'm Sarah Baumgartner.
