(2008-03-11)
(ksut) - HOST LEAD: Twelve organizations serving residents in Colorado's 5 Southwest Counties are sharing in 137-thousand dollars in grants being awarded today.
KSUT's Victor Locke reports.

VICTOR: The 12 Non-Profits will be presented with grants totalling 137-thousand dollars, from El Pomar Foundation's Southwest Regional Council, during a ceremony this evening at six at the Fort Lewis College Ballroom.
The grants recognize the service provided by the various groups in the areas of substance abuse prevention, dental care and education.
The largest singular grant, 75-thousand dollars, goes to the Regional Substance Abuse Prevention Program.
It's the second year the council has funded the program, which has a goal of reducing substance abuse by youth and increasing protective factors for youth in the region.
Other groups receiving grants include the Archuleta County Education Center, San Juan Basin Health's Smile Makers Dental program and the Montezuma County Children's Dental Program, Pagosa Springs Humane Society, and the Durango Food Bank.
El Pomar has awarded more than 3 million dollars through 9 regional council's statewide, which were created in 2003.
From KSUT, I'm Victor Locke.
