(ksut) - A large slab of rock came crashing onto highway 550 at Bondad hill early today breaking into two pieces and forcing closure of all but one lane of the highway for most of the day.
CDOT crews spent the day breaking up the two slabs, one measuring about 20-feet long, 15-feet wide and 12-feet high, the size of a bus.
The other was about 8 by 8 feet.
Explosives, a trackhoe and mechanical hammer were needed to break up and remove the rocks.
More cleanup of the site is expected to take place tomorrow, which could result in some delays.
