Lawsuit Filed Over HD Wells
(2008-01-23)
(ksut) - HOST LEAD: A lawsuit has been filed to stop gas well drilling in the HD Mountains, east of Bayfield.
KSUT's Victor Locke reports:

VICTOR: The lawsuit, filed in federal district court, seeks to overturn the Forest Service and BLM's approval last summer of 27 new wells and 11 miles of new road, in the HD's roadless area, located East of Bayfield.
Those filing the suit include the San Juan Citizens Alliance, the Oil and Gas Accountability Project, Colorado Environmental Coalition, Colorado Wild and The Wilderness Society.
The groups allege the wells threaten water quality, wildlife and stands of old growth ponderosa as well as the health and safety of those living near the Fruitland Outcrop where much of the coalbed methane is located.
Forest Service officials say they have not been formally served notice of the suit, and can't comment until they have had a chance to review it.
From KSUT, I'm Victor Locke.
