Millions in GOCO $$$ Earmarked for SW Colorado
(2007-12-04)
(ksut) - HOST LEAD: Millions of dollars in Great Outdoors Colorado Grants have been awarded statewide and to five Southwest Colorado Counties.
KSUT's Victor Locke reports.

VICTOR: Fifty Seven million dollars in GOCO Legacy grant awards to 15 projects have been made by Governor Bill Ritter and the GOCO Board.
The monies will help preserve an estimated 138-thousand acres accordring to GOCO's Lise Aangeenbrug.
AANGEENBRUG: THEY ARE PROJECTS OF REGIONAL SIGNIFICANCE WITH MULTIPLE PARTNERS THAT NEED SEVERAL MILLION DOLLARS TO ACCOMPLISH OVER SEVERAL YEARS.
Those grants include 4.15 million dollars for the Upper San Juan River Watershed Project in Archuleta and Mineral Counties.
That's a new project by the Conservation Fund designed to protect up to 44-hundred acres on two ranches in the watershed, to secure wildlife linkages, habitats and watershed buffers.
The San Juan Skyway Project in LaPlata, Montezuma and Ouray Counties, sponsored by the Black Canyon Land Trust, also receives 4.39 million dollars to provide streamside protections from development.
GOCO was created in 1992 to use half the state's lottery proceeds for conservation, wildlife, park, river, trail and open space projects.
From KSUT, I'm Victor Locke.
