(ksut) - HOST LEAD: Residents of Dolores and Cortez are mobilizing to help a neighbor facing a massive medical bill after being injured in a freak bicycle crash.
KSUT's Victor Locke reports.

VICTOR: Marilyn Cieszykowski of Dolores has spent the past seven years working as a Nurse Practitioner in the Four Corners.
During that time she's made lots of friends among patients she's helped, and others.
Now they are returning the favor.
Cieszykowski was seriously hurt October 3rd while vacationing in Ecuador with her companion, Gareth Martins, director of marketing at Osprey Packs of Cortez.
Marilyn's friend, Alex Prime says the couple had borrowed two beater bikes from a hotel for a leisurely ride to explore a small town.
PRIME: THEY'RE HEADING DOWN A HILL AND MARILYN'S BRAKES WENT OUT, AND SHE WENT FLYING SOME THIRTY FEET AND LANDED AND SUSTAINED MULTIPLE INJURIES.
Cieszykowski is now at Kindred Rehab Hospital Denver, still recovering from those injuries.
PRIME: SHE'S BECOMING INCREASINGLY MORE CONSCIOUS AND ALERT. SHE CAN COMMUNICATE WITH HAND SQUEEZES AND SHE'S STARTING TO DO MORE NODS, GESTURES, WAVING WITH HER HAND. SHE CAN'T SPEAK AT THE MOMENT.
Friends, patients and co-workers of Cieszykowski and Martins are now mobilizing to help them defray the expense of evacuating her from Ecuador after the crash.
PRIME: THAT HAS BEEN THEIR BIGGEST EXPENSE SO FAR, SIXTY THOUSAND DOLLARS IN GETTING HER TRANSPORTED FROM ECUADOR, FIRST TO HOUSTON AND THEN TO DENVER.
And Prime says the couples insurance didn't cover the 60-thousand dollar cost of the medical evacuation.
An ad hoc committee of friends and co-workers formed, and at least two fundraisers have been arranged.
The first will be next Friday, The Great Outdoor Gear Sale, which will be held from 1-6pm at Osprey's headquarters in Cortez.
PRIME: THEY'VE BEEN CONTACTING ALL THE REPS THAT SELL OSPREY GEAR TO DONATE EQUIPMENT THAT THEY'VE ACCUMULATED OVER THE YEARS SO THEY'VE BEEN GETTING A LOT OF DIFFERENT BICYCLES AND PACKS AND SKIS, YOU NAME IT, HIGH END OUTDOOR GEAR, AND IT'S GOING TO BE SOLD FOR REASONABLE PRICES.
Donated items for the sale are also being accepted tomorrow at Backcountry Experience in Durango, and until Thursday at Osprey as well as Kokopelli's Bike and Board in Cortez.
Prime says a music benefit at the Cortez American Legion hall is also being organized for November 17th.
PRIME: IF PEOPLE WHO KNOW MARILYN WOULD LIKE TO STAY IN TOUCH ON HER PROGRESS, WE'VE STARTED A BLOG WITH DAILY OR FREQUENT UPDATES ON HOW SHE'S DOING AND THAT ADDRESS IS
MARILYNC.BLOGSPOT.COM.
